This song is about the Shadow King, den Schattenkönig, a character from the book "The city of dreaming books" ("Die Stadt der träumenden Bücher") by Walter Moers. He is the king of the catabombs of Buchhaim, and rules down under the earth. He is made out of the pages of old books, a very special kind of paper, that will catch fire if it comes into contact with the sunlight. Thats why he must dwell under the surface to survive. But one day he decides that he prefers to step into the sun for one last time and burn in glorious flames rather then spend all of eternity in darkness. There are two poems in the book that serve as introductions to the first and second part of the book - I used them in my song and put them to music. They're the slow part of the song. The rest of the lyrics I wrote myself.
